Taiwanese cuisine claimed the top spot in popularity among Japanese respondents, surpassing Italian and Korean cuisines with its delicious appeal. It beat out many other renowned food nations thanks to four key factors.
According to the list of the top 10 food destinations in the hearts of Japanese people, published by Rakuten Travel’s hotel booking site, Taiwan was voted the most popular food destination by Japanese netizens. The full ranking is as follows: Italy, Korea, Spain, Thailand, Hong Kong, France, Hawaii, Vietnam, and Singapore.
Taiwan stood out with its thin-skinned, juicy xiaolongbao (soup dumplings), aromatic beef noodles, high cost-performance ratio lu rou fan (braised pork rice), and warm, friendly hospitality. These strengths earned it the highest praise among Japanese netizens as a top food destination. Taiwanese cuisine is not only tasty but also has seasonings that align well with Japanese palates.
Italy, ranked second, impressed Japanese netizens with its classic dishes such as Italian pizza, tiramisu, and carbonara, securing its place as a highly favored food destination. Following closely behind, Korea charmed visitors with its sweet and savory samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup), making it a place that Japanese tourists are happy to revisit time and again.
