With the scorching heat of summer, what are some cool spots to visit when traveling to South Korea in August? The Korea Tourism Organization has selected 5 recommended refreshing and cooling destinations worth exploring — including South Korea’s first lake park, and the country’s first-ever single-person whitewater floating activity. From water-based fun to sky adventures, there's also a billion-year-old limestone cave that's as cool as a fridge, allowing you to enjoy a refreshing summer.

1. Incheon Songdo International City: Located about 40 minutes from Incheon Airport, Songdo International City showcases Incheon’s future vision. Here, you can admire South Korea’s first lake park, “Songdo Central Park,” along with surrounding eye-catching modern architecture. Water taxis travel within the park, letting you enjoy a vacation-like experience right in the city.

2. Inje Misan Valley: The Neungnae Stream is the only river in South Korea that flows northward, stretching 57 kilometers across a vast basin with crystal-clear waters, making it a popular spot for water activities. In addition to rafting, you can also try South Korea’s first single-person whitewater floating sport, “River Bugging.”

3. Danyang Gosu Cave: Designated as a Natural Monument of South Korea, Danyang Gosu Cave stretches 1.9 km in length. Pohang Canal and Yeongil Bay: A top cruise activity in Pohang, boating allows you to take in the views of the Pohang Canal and the seascape of Yeongil Bay, which is also one of the best spots to welcome the sunrise. In addition, the Hwidong Peninsula coastal walkway at Tiger Tail Cape, Yeongil Square, and the Geumgangpo Modern History & Culture Street are all noteworthy attractions.
