The Puli Yangzhi Valley Bubble Hot Spring Has Been Certified, Attracting a Surge of Visitors

Autumn and winter are the best seasons for hot spring bathing. In Nantou County, which boasts numerous hot springs, Yangzhi Valley Hot Spring Homestay on the outskirts of Puli Town has discovered Taiwan’s only natural carbonated “bubble” hot spring and obtained a hot spring certification, drawing even more attention from hot spring enthusiasts who are flocking here to experience this rare natural live spring water.

Puli Yangzhi Valley Hot Spring Homestay is located at No. 151, Section 1, Zhongshan Road, Wugong Li, Puli Town. With its elegant surroundings and unique water quality—a mildly alkaline “live bubble spring”—it has been officially recognized as a “natural hot spring” by the national hot spring testing authority. Although visitors come in droves every day, there are only four double suites available, often resulting in high demand. Advance reservations are essential, as finding available rooms on short notice is difficult.

The owner of Yangzhi Valley Hot Spring Homestay, Qin Congxun, is a renowned artist in Nantou. His journey into the homestay business has a legendary backstory. Qin said it was all a matter of fate—he originally just wanted to find an artistic environment for his retirement but unexpectedly dug up Taiwan’s only natural carbonated bubble hot spring. Even the well-driller was amazed and found it unbelievable to have struck such a magical live bubble spring.

Because of this carbonated bubble hot spring, almost by accident, Qin Congxun and his wife embarked on an “irreversible path” into the homestay business.

This rare bicarbonate spring has been tested, revealing 453 mg/L of bicarbonate ions and a pH value of 8.6. The water is low in hardness, free of sulfur smell, bacteria, and impurities—it is an exceptionally rare and precious type of hot spring. Qin Congxun explained that the most unique aspect of this well is that when you turn on the tap and pour the water into a glass, it starts off murky, then naturally bubbles up with thousands of tiny bubbles. Within seconds, it clears from the bottom up and becomes completely transparent. It’s truly magical and astonishing.

Qin also noted that water quality experts have told him this is natural live spring water that doesn’t require any processing to produce its magical bubbles, making it suitable as a natural moisturizing water.
