Hidden Sakura Spot in New Taipei: Shiding’s “Little Getou Nursery” Opens to Public for the First Time

From January to March each year, New Taipei City gradually transforms into a sea of pink blossoms, attracting over a million visitors. The newly opened sakura-viewing secret spot this year — “Shiding Little Getou Nursery” — is now starting to blush with pink hues, kicking off a mini-sakura journey in New Taipei.

New Taipei City is home to about 150,000 cherry trees. Every year, from Tamsui and Shanzhi to Shiding Mountain Area, Wulai, and Pinglin, the pink blooms stretch across all 29 districts of the city. Between January and March, romantic pink cherry blossoms decorate every corner of New Taipei.

The newly opened Shiding “Little Getou Nursery” is located at the 23.5 km mark on the Beiyi Highway, in the direction from Xindian to Shiding. Originally a municipal nursery, it usually cultivates plants used for roadside trees and flowers, and has not been open to the public. The nursery houses around 200 mountain cherry trees, and at the “New Taipei Sakura Mini-Trip” press conference on the 20th, some of the blossoms could already be seen. The trees are expected to be in full bloom for about three weeks before the petals fall.

At the press conference, New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu expressed amazement upon seeing the blooming mountain cherry blossoms at “Little Getou Nursery,” praising the beautiful pink scenery. Chen Yuanquan, Director of the Greening and Landscaping Division under the Agriculture Bureau, also smiled and said that “Little Getou Nursery” is his hidden gem for cherry blossom viewing. He noted that the best time to admire the blooms is around the eve of the Lunar New Year. The nursery will be open to the public daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., from January 21 to 26.

This year’s “New Taipei Sakura Mini-Trip” runs from now until March. In addition to the breathtaking spread of cherry blossoms, 10 themed sakura-viewing trails have been introduced.
