Tainan’s Year-End Goods Street Kicks Off on the 24th – 106 Vendors Gather in Xinhua

The “2014 Celebrate Tainan — Xinhua Year-End Goods Street” event will begin on the 24th, with this year’s setup further divided into five major zones to make shopping more convenient. Tainan Mayor Lai Ching-te also stated at today’s press conference that he hopes the public will make greater use of public transportation in support of Tainan City’s vision of becoming a “low-carbon city.”

Having been successfully held for two consecutive years, the Xinhua Year-End Goods Street has received widespread acclaim. This year, the goods have been further categorized into five sections: 17 stalls for “North-South Goods,” 44 for “Food,” 23 for “Souvenirs,” 22 for “Festival Merchandise,” and 5 for “Themed Specialty Stalls,” totaling 106 stalls. During the event, renowned artists such as Golden Melody Award winner Huang Shanliang, Tsai Chang-hsien, Wang Jui-hsia, and Tsao Ya-wen will also be invited to perform lively music and dance acts on the main stage for visiting shoppers.

Mayor Lai noted that due to the positive reputation from the past two years, this year has attracted a large number of vendors competing for stalls. Since all selected businesses have undergone rigorous screening, the public can shop with confidence. Additionally, to help transform Tainan into a “low-carbon city,” Mayor Lai encourages the public to take advantage of the city’s mass transit bus system when coming to buy their New Year goods.

Beyond shopping for New Year goods, Xinhua is also a place rich in cultural and historical heritage that witnesses Taiwan’s historical evolution. In addition to the Xinhua Old Street, there are also cultural landmarks such as the Wude Hall, making it well worth a visit. The “2014 Celebrate Tainan — Xinhua Year-End Goods Street” runs from January 24th to 29th. Those looking to stock up on New Year goods might want to head over and hunt for the best bargains.
