TransAsia Airways stated that the original plan was to choose one set of matching Chinese and English names, but since the entries were so close in quality, the judging panel decided to award separate first prizes for the Chinese and English names. Both lucky winners will receive free flights on V Air for ten years.

TransAsia Airways said that the submissions were all quite creative. The judging panel felt that “V Air” and “威航” stood out in terms of recognizability and memorability. In addition, both names feature short syllables in both Chinese and English, which is beneficial for attracting international travelers. Moreover, the letter “V” carries a wide range of positive meanings, including Voyage (journey), Vision, Vivid (lively), Victory… All of these are the kinds of uplifting energy a new company needs when entering the market. Coupled with the V-sign gesture, public affinity and acceptance of the new airline were significantly boosted — key factors in its success.

After completing the relevant government approval procedures, V Air is expected to officially launch before the end of this year. Meanwhile, the V Air official website and Facebook page will also be gradually unveiled. In addition, the V Air management team has started working on the logo design and will invite the two naming prize winners to attend the upcoming logo unveiling event to receive their awards in person.
