With winter vacation starting, it’s also a great time for family trips. In the north, the Taipei Zoo’s newly unveiled panda cub Yuan Zai is the hottest attraction, drawing travelers from all over Taiwan to see its adorable looks. Hotel operators have launched panda-themed rooms and Yuan Zai cupcakes to ride the “Yuan Zai wave” and attract guests.

Hansei Hotel Xinzhuang has specially launched the “Eu Eu Sleep, Grow an Inch Overnight” Yuan Zai accommodation package. From now until February 28, 2014 (Friday) (excluding the Lunar New Year period from January 30 to February 3), double occupancy in an elegant room costs NT$2,999 per night per room. The package includes one night in a panda cub-themed room, breakfast for two, one cat cable & MRT day pass per person, and one panda souvenir (cute panda wall sticker). Guests can use the cat cable & MRT day pass to enjoy unlimited rides on the Maokong Gondola, Taipei MRT, and buses on the same day. However, only three rooms are available per day under this package.

In addition, Zhongxin Grand Hotel Zhongli has also launched a two-day-one-night panda accommodation package. From now until September 30, 2014, for two people sharing one room, the rate is NT$2,688 per night per room, including buffet breakfast for two, a selection of welcome fruit, daily newspapers, free unlimited Wi-Fi, plus two panda-themed cupcakes and a 20% discount on food and beverage purchases.

The Cloud Lounge Western Restaurant at The Regent Taipei has introduced adorable panda-themed cupcakes. The chef uses Valrhona 70% dark chocolate for the base layer of the cake, and decorates the top with black and white chocolate to create the shape of Yuan Zai. Guests dining at the Cloud Lounge Western Restaurant during lunch or dinner can enjoy this unique dessert. The Cloud Lounge is a semi-buffet restaurant, with prices starting from $1,280 + 10% per person.
