A Hidden Artistic Gem in Taipei for the Literary-Minded: “Caoshan Yuxi” on Yangmingshan

Hidden on Yangmingshan is an artsy space full of literary charm — “Caoshan Yuxi.” With its distinctive architectural design that stands out vividly, the venue features expansive gardens and spacious interiors, all wrapped in a serene and elegant atmosphere. Not sure where to go on the weekend? Head to Caoshan Yuxi to admire stone sculptures and snap some beautiful photos outside the art gallery.

Caoshan Yuxi Garden91 was established by the Yuxi Yourong Education Foundation and took one year to build. Initially, Japanese architect Kazuyo Sejima was invited to design the art museum, but due to regulatory issues, her architectural vision couldn’t be realized over a span of five years. As a result, the original structure was renovated and redesigned, giving rise to the current exhibition space.

The garden landscape at Caoshan Yuxi is designed to evoke a sense of openness and tranquility. Lush green lawns, unique architecture, and scattered stone sculptures form a picturesque scene. The park showcases 18 stone sculptures collected by Chairman Lin Wenxiong; the indoor area mainly displays Chinese stone carvings, while the basement houses a café where visitors can take a break after exploring. In addition, the venue occasionally hosts small-scale cultural events.
