Cherry blossoms across Taiwan are in full bloom. In the Chiayi area, the blooming season is slightly later than in the north, but they are now gradually flowering. The county government has created a “Chiayi County Cherry Blossom Map” to help visitors explore the blooms. In addition to the famous cherry blossoms in Alishan, there are also emerging flower-viewing spots such as Fenqihu, Rueili, Xiding, and Yingge Mountain in Zhongpu Township. The county government has planned four cherry blossom routes, so visitors don’t need to worry about not finding cherry blossoms.

The county government’s Agriculture Department stated that the best cherry blossom viewing spot in Chiayi County remains Alishan Forest Recreation Area, where the blossoms have begun to bloom and will reach their peak from the end of February to mid-March. The Agriculture Bureau recommends two cherry blossom routes. The first route starts from the Alishan Hotel, passing through the Plum Garden, Alishan Police Station, and up to the Zhushan Trailhead, spanning over 600 meters, where you can admire snow-white Yoshino cherry blossoms.

The second route starts from Zhapoping Park, passing through Sister Ponds, Ciyun Temple, the Alpine Museum, and the Elephant Trunk Tree before reaching the Alishan Hotel, covering a total distance of 2.6 kilometers, where you can view Yoshino, Thousand Island, Oshima, and Somei-yoshino cherry blossoms.

In addition, along Alishan Highway (Provincial Highway 18), areas such as Xiding, Shizhuo, and the Mist Lake Trail feature Taiwan cherry, mountain cherry, and Kawazu-zakura blossoms. Fenqihu offers mountain and Kawazu-zakura blossoms, while Rueili has mountain cherry blossoms. The Agriculture Department pointed out that the newly popular Yingge Mountain in Shilong (Shilong) Village, Zhongpu Township, between Unicorn Beetle Farm and Yanshan Hot Springs, has planted over 1,000 Somei-yoshino and Showa cherry trees, making it a great spot for both cherry blossom viewing and hot spring bathing.
