The 3rd “Beijing Specialties Week” will launch at Kaohsiung’s Banana Pier on February 13. Over the six-day exhibition period, it will bring together 25 well-known time-honored Beijing restaurants such as Quanjude, Bianyifang, and Qingfeng Steamed Buns, along with dozens of traditional handicraft businesses, enabling the public to savor genuine Beijing flavors without going to Beijing.
In mid-2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping, dressed casually, visited Qingfeng Steamed Buns in Beijing’s Yuetan area and tried scallion pork buns, fried liver, and mustard greens. After quickly going viral online, Qingfeng Steamed Buns became one of Beijing’s hottest restaurants, and the “two liang of scallion pork buns, one serving of fried liver, and one serving of mustard greens” — dubbed the “President’s Combo” — also became a popular order among many diners.
This year’s Beijing Specialties Week marks the first time Qingfeng Steamed Buns has come to Taiwan, and it has specially brought its “President’s Combo” for the public to try, sparking heated discussions among Taiwanese foodies.

The opening ceremony will also feature a special segment titled “Peking Opera Meets Taiwanese Opera,” promising to liven up Kaohsiung’s Lantern Festival.
Zhang Suluang, chairman of Riverside Catering Group, said that after negotiations, Qingfeng Steamed Buns’ President’s Combo could be introduced in Kaohsiung in the near future. The time-honored brand “Bianyifang,” also participating in this exhibition, is expected to set up shop in Kaohsiung around June or July. In the future, enjoying “roast duck and steamed buns” in Kaohsiung will be both easy and convenient.
