The Treasure Hill Lantern Festival – A Hidden Gem Where You’re Bound to Get Lost and Turn into Art

Do all lantern festivals feel the same to you every year? Have you ever imagined that a Lantern Festival could be filled with artistry and even turn visitors into part of the art itself? Located in the Gongguan commercial area, Treasure Hill Artist Village presents a lantern festival exhibition through contemporary art curation.February 15 to March 16The month-long lantern festival invites eight groups of contemporary artists to use various methods such as visual art and performance, together with Treasure Hill’s unique cultural environment, to create a one-of-a-kind artistic lantern festival.

Stepping into Treasure Hill, you’ll immediately notice the festival’s standout feature: a large spiral structure made of bamboo, with soft light glowing subtly from within the joints; a virtual living space constructed with steel lines and LED lights, showcasing Treasure Hill’s distinctive landscape and history. There are also fiber-optic human-shaped lanterns, interactive laser beam artworks, and even a river that emits lotus-like glows. Getting lost in the maze-like Treasure Hill might happen, but that only adds to the joy of discovering hidden wonders. The emotional impact when each artistic creation suddenly reveals itself is an experience unmatched by other lantern festivals.

Huang Wenyan, director of Treasure Hill Artist Village, explained that the site’s unique environment allows residential buildings, mountain cliffs, and rivers to become creative bases for the festival. The lantern festival, brought to life through contemporary art, ensuresit's no longer just a visual stroll — but rather a dynamic interaction between people and art. “It allows visitors to become part of the lantern festival.”

On the opening night of the Lantern Festival on February 15, a special cross-disciplinary art performance by Treasure Hill artists begins at 7 p.m. At 8 p.m., New York art collective Improv Everywhere invites the public to participate in the “MP3 Experiment – Lantern Festival Special Edition” mission in front of Treasure Hill’s historical ruins, transforming participants into “beings of light.” For more event details,please visit the event’s Facebook page.Search.
