A Hidden Gem: Another Hot Spring Village Awaits in Beitou — A High-Value Secluded Soaking Retreat

Beitou’s Shamao Mountain is undoubtedly one of Taipei’s top hot spring destinations. The aroma of hot springs and the enchanting white steam along Xingyi Road attract countless bathers daily seeking relaxation.
The 【Tianxiang Hot Spring Restaurant】, hidden away in Lane 260 of Xingyi Road and known only to regulars, is also a must-visit on many insiders’ hot spring lists.
Not only are the prices incredibly reasonable, but there’s also a shaded path where you can enjoy some nature. Whether it’s summer or the bone-chilling winter, it’s a place you’ll want to soak in (*佝6鬲)

Located in the alleys of Xingyi Road in Beitou, Tianxiang Hot Spring can be reached whether you’re coming from Yangmingshan’s Pingjing Street after enjoying the cherry blossoms via Shamao Road, or heading up from Tianshui along Xingyi Road. But since it’s not on a main road, keep an eye out for the Lane 260 sign along Xingyi Road so you don’t miss it.
Tianxiang Hot Spring has been around for years. Its red beams may be a bit rustic, but the archway has a classic charm. The two characters “天祥” (Tianxiang) also form the initials of the couplet “Natural Beauty Accompanies Your Meal, Peaceful Warm Baths Enhance Health,” adding a touch of poetry and literary flair.

After passing through the archway, the rather “auspicious” red beams are quite striking. Aside from a beverage vending machine, there’s also a little kiosk that you’d never guess was there unless you saw someone open the metal gate XD
The hot spring facilities at Tianxiang — including private and communal pools — operate from 5:00 AM to 2:00 AM.
Typically, the last entry time is 1:00 AM. A yellow sign lit up at the entrance indicates that the hot spring area is still open. Please note that the restaurant hours are from 11:00 AM to 1:00 AM, which differ from the hot spring hours. Also, while the hot spring area is open year-round, the restaurant is closed every Tuesday.

A long pathway leads bathers to this hidden hot spring village. You can also hear and see the babbling brook that brings life to Tianxiang Hot Spring. It’s even more pleasant here when it’s still light outside. Unfortunately, it’s all stairs, which can be a bit inconvenient for elderly visitors.

After going downstairs, you’ll see the ticket counter for the hot spring area on your right. However, you won’t get an actual ticket after purchasing — the staff will just tell you where to go. It’s actually pretty amusing how it works.

Upon closer inspection, the communal pools are quite simple and smaller in size. They’re far from the level of those found at Coconut Grove, but with prices as low as 70 NTD, they’ve naturally earned their own loyal fan base.

From stir-fried noodles with shredded pork under 100 NTD, to common hot pot dishes often seen at chicken farms, to the classic pineapple-bitter melon chicken soup — the space features a tin roof, transparent plastic windbreaks, large round tables, and karaoke. The environment is very basic and ordinary, but clean. The only downside is that the karaoke can get quite loud.

Entering the private bath area, my mood shifted a bit. After seeing the restaurant and communal pools earlier, I didn’t have high expectations for Tianxiang’s tubs. But as I walked into the most secluded corner of the private bath zone and saw these red-and-gray brick walls in a nostalgic style — completely different from my previous impression — I couldn’t help but smile, wondering if I’d just struck gold XD

Next to the private baths, there are hairdryers, massage chairs, and electric massagers, but each requires an additional coin payment.

There are about ten or so private tub rooms. On weekdays, there aren’t many people, and even on weekends, the wait isn’t too long. Compared to the long queues and crowds at other nearby hot spring restaurants, it’s a much more relaxed experience. The soaking time limit is 30 minutes. On weekends, due to higher guest volume, you can’t purchase extra time. But honestly, Tianxiang is pretty laid-back — they don’t really monitor how long guests soak. At most, they might knock to check if you’re okay or make an announcement as a friendly reminder. That said, if it’s super crowded on weekends, please be considerate and don’t hog the tubs while others are waiting Orz

The interior of the tub rooms is compact, just right for two people, but it has a cozy atmosphere. The stone walls give off a reassuring sense of relaxation. The water heats up fairly quickly, so you can soon slip into a nice, warm soak.

This time coming to Tianxiang Hot Springs was truly a treasure find. Actually, we originally planned to soak in the bathhouse at Yelin Gourmet Restaurant, but the wait was at least two hours. If we had really waited, by the time our friends finished soaking in the public pool and had their late-night snacks, we might still have been waiting Orz.
I can only say that heaven rewards the diligent (or the broke), and comparing options really pays off. We found this high cost-performance Tianxiang Hot Springs bathhouse. Although there’s no showerhead, plain water, or body wash to take a quick shower after soaking, and even blow-drying your hair requires an extra coin, such tranquility, such pricing, and such a bathhouse—this is already quite the treat for us budget travelers.

The recommendation is limited to the private baths; the public pools are still waiting to be explored and shared :P
