Take the bus for a "light travel" experience – Explore the old city of Tainan with Liu Kexiang

There's a new way to appreciate the beauty of Tainan. The Tainan City Government has launched the "Bus Light Travel" program, integrating the city’s six major bus trunk lines and 74 branch lines. Renowned writers such as Liu Kexiang and Wang Haoyi serve as "celebrity guides," introducing the natural features and cultural landscapes along the six trunk routes. Going forward, visitors to Tainan can enjoy a fulfilling trip without needing a car. The city government has compiled this information into a booklet, which is now available for free to the public.

The Tainan City Transportation Bureau stated that the Greater Tainan Trunk Bus Light Travel Handbook invites six celebrity writers to "guide the way." They personally experienced the routes along the Green, Blue, Brown, Orange, Yellow, and Red Lines and documented their travels, offering diverse perspectives on exploring Tainan. The Green Line is led by Liu Kexiang, who takes the No. 20 bus on the Green Trunk Line to recount the historical charm of the small towns along the way, including the abundant displays of fruits and vegetables at the Xinhua Fruit and Vegetable Market and the archaeological culture of Zuozen.

Writer Wang Haoyi explores the Blue Line, showcasing the beauty of sesame fields in Anding and Xigang, the local delicacies of Jiali District, temple art, and century-old trees. Cultural historian Chen Shiyan leads the Brown Line, delving into the exquisite art of temples. High-mountain photographer Cui Zuxi takes the Orange Line, planning a photography and sightseeing journey that heads north across the plains to the Jia-Nan Irrigation System and the Wushantou Reservoir. From streets and mountain paths to waterways, he captures the landscape of Southern Taiwan.

The Yellow Line is guided by travel expert Gong Toujian, who recommends classic rural scenery of southern Taiwan. As for the must-try snacks and street food in Tainan, food writer Wang Xuan takes the Red Line to introduce a variety of traditional Tainan delicacies.

The city government reminds the public that the Bus Light Travel handbook can be collected for free at various government offices and tourist service centers around the city. Users of electronic tickets who take the train and transfer to the bus can enjoy a NT$9 discount. Those riding the trunk and branch bus lines can also benefit from a basic fare waiver of NT$26, plus an additional NT$9 discount for transfers within two hours. Additionally, real-time bus arrival information can be checked via the Greater Tainan Bus APP.
