“Most Dreamlike Cycling Route” Challenge – Scenic East Coast Views & In-depth Tribal Tours

Voted by global cyclists as the “most desired dream route,” Taiwan’s East Coast is the place to be！ The Tourism Bureau’s East Coast National Scenic Area Administration has specially launched the “East Coast Sports Tourism” brand, with the first event being the “2014 Brave the East Coast Cycling Challenge” in March. In addition to enjoying the stunning coastal scenery along the way, the administration has also planned tribal tour packages, inviting cyclists and travelers to embark on an in-depth journey.

The East Coast National Scenic Area Administration stated that Provincial Highway 11 along the East Coast is the most suitable area in Taiwan for cycling, and it was recently voted by global cyclists as the green route they most want to visit. This year’s Brave the East Coast Cycling Challenge kicks off on March 23 at the Jialulan Recreation Area in Taitung. The day before the event, two half-day tribal tours and scenic spot guided tours are available for participants to purchase as add-ons.

The first tour is to the harboring tribe in Fengbin Township, Hualien County, where visitors can experience the beauty of traditional ramie weaving, learn survival skills such as setting traps for mountain hunting, and enjoy the thrill of speeding through the forest. The second is to the Maro’alung Tribe in Donghe Township, Taitung County, where tourists can paddle bamboo rafts through the majestic rocks of the Mawulu River or explore the hills behind the tribe in search of beautiful sapphires. Each tour, including transportation, costs NT$800.

The administration pointed out that this event has also invited businesses along the East Coast to offer a variety of discount vouchers in the participants’ handbook, covering accommodations, gourmet dining, and souvenir shopping.
