Daniel R. Scoggin, the legendary godfather who laid the foundation of American casual dining culture and built TGI Fridays into a global American restaurant chain system, visited Taiwan for the first time. Known as the godfather of American casual dining chains and also referred to as the global leader of Friday’s, he infused TGI Fridays with a unique brand and restaurant identity, personally leading it to become the flagship brand of American casual dining culture. Without Daniel R. Scoggin, there would be no American dining culture in the world.
Under the leadership of founder and CEO Daniel R. Scoggin, TGI Fridays became a global sensation for half a century. Daniel R. Scoggin’s management philosophy structured the entire business organization around the concept of “excellence.” He cited the classic onion soup from the early days of TGI Fridays as an example — it wasn’t enough to just be okay, the goal was to use high-quality ingredients, achieve superior quality, and make it as delicious as fine-dining cuisine, which is not easily surpassed. Secondly, restaurant managers must pay attention to every detail, checking table arrangements, cutlery, and the environment before opening, striving to provide the best service to guests.
Thirdly, consistency is key. No matter which TGI Fridays you visit, the same dishes should have the same taste. Achieving this requires exceptional execution, following recipes to ensure uniformly flavored meals.

At the same time, Daniel R. Scoggin’s management also starts with people. Regarding employees, he believes that leaders must take care of their staff, help them solve problems, and build good relationships with them like family. When that happens, profits will naturally follow without needing to pursue them deliberately.
In recent years, there have been more and more Asian restaurants in the U.S., and Americans seem to be more accepting. Daniel R. Scoggin has observed this trend. He said that he has a friend in San Francisco who opened a Korean creative cuisine restaurant, adding elements that Americans could also appreciate on the foundation of traditional Korean dishes, which became very popular locally. Other Japanese and Chinese restaurants have also incorporated creative twists to cater to American tastes. But he also believes that incorporating Asian culinary elements into American cuisine will help Americans become more receptive to Eastern food traditions.
