When traveling in Korea, besides taking the subway to get around tourist spots, there's now a new money-saving option. Located in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, the provincial capital city of Suwon has introduced a limited-time public bicycle rental system starting in March. Visitors can cycle between major city attractions such as Hwaseong Haenggung and Noryangjin Training Ground, with a one-day rental fee of just 1,000 KRW (approximately NT$30)—super affordable!

Suwon City is only about an hour’s drive from Seoul and is also the location of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government. The UNESCO World Heritage Site “Suwon Hwaseong Fortress” and the military stronghold “Noryangjin Training Ground” are both located here. The famous “Korean Folk Village” is also just a 30-minute drive from the city center. As part of the Seoul metropolitan area, it is one of the key destinations for short trips outside the capital.

To make it easier for travelers to get around the city, starting March 1, the Suwon City Government has set up a public bicycle rental system at four main tourist sites within the urban area. The service is expected to run until November. In addition to providing 60 bicycles for rent at Hwaseong Haenggung, there are also rental stations at three other locations: “in front of the Noryangjin Archery Experience Field,” “Hwaseong West Gate entrance,” and “Chang’an Gate Tourist Service Center,” with 25 bicycles available for rent.

The rental process is simple—just present your passport or alien registration card (a local ID-like document) to rent a bike. However, the service is only available daily from 9 AM to 6 PM, and bikes are provided on a first-come, first-served basis due to limited availability.
