Local flavor meets rock music: Oyster Liao Fishing Village Beach in Kaohsiung rocks out

Local culture fused with new-age rock music debuts in Kaohsiung. Since year 101 (2012), the grassroots-initiated "Oyster Liao Fishing Village Mini Rock Festival" has spread love for the hometown through music and online platforms, resonating widely. Starting today (the 28th), the event returns to the South Beach of Oyster Liao, drawing huge crowds and creating an electrifying atmosphere.

Organizers got creative this year, suspending a decommissioned fishing boat as the stage backdrop, echoing the "fishing village rock" theme. The highly localized promotional video also sparked heated discussions online. By noon today, crowds began gathering, growing livelier as the evening progressed. In the evening, Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu attended to show support, praising the community spirit behind the locally organized event and its success in attracting young people to discover local heritage.

The event was initiated by local residents including Tsai Deng-tsai, parent-teacher association president of Oyster Liao Elementary School; Lin Hsien-lang, a retired teacher from Haisei Industrial and Commercial School; and Tzeng Chih-ling, a member of the post-2000 generation. With passionate love for their hometown and cross-generational collaboration, they self-funded the event and meticulously handled everything from promotion to transportation to showcase Oyster Liao’s simple, charming fishing village life.

The two-day beach concert kicked off with performances by the Oyster Liao Elementary lion dance troupe, the Oyster Liao Junior High San Taizi (Three Divine Princes) group, and the school choir. It also featured many indie bands, such as PA-SHIH Boys, 1976, APACHiiiiCE, Tai Qing Jiao, Panai + Naluwan, Lim Tshinn-shyang, and Kao Shian-chih. The organizers also arranged shuttle buses from Exit 1 of the World Games MRT Station, running from 4 PM to 9:30 PM roughly every 15–20 minutes.
