The "blue-sign McDonald's" is located in Sedona, a resort destination in Arizona, USA, which features unique geological landscapes such as red sandstone formations and majestic rock cliffs. When McDonald's initially planned to open a branch here, the local government believed that the brand’s signature golden sign would ruin the area’s picturesque scenery. Additionally, McDonald's often erects tall golden signs by the roadside to attract attention from afar — all of these were rejected in Sedona on the grounds of "damaging the landscape."

In the end, McDonald's decided to compromise with the environment. In addition to lowering the height of the sign, the company also changed its iconic "M" logo to blue — finally securing permission to open the store.
