2018 Global Flower Viewing Guide: A Visual Feast for Your Eyes

Top Japanese Cherry Blossom Viewing Destinations

[Fuji Shibazakura Festival] The Fuji Shibazakura in Kawaguchiko, Yamanashi Prefecture, is Japan’s largest shibazakura (moss phlox) event, held grandly from mid-April to May each year. Eight hundred thousand shibazakura plants transform the foothills of Mount Fuji into a pink landscape. When the snow still lingers on the peak of Mount Fuji, it creates a stunning contrast with the pink expanse below. [Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival] The Kawazu-zakura, the earliest-blooming cherry variety in mainland Japan, flourishes along the Kawazu River. With over 8,000 cherry trees lining both riverbanks, the bloom lasts about a month. During the festival, the area is bustling with visitors exploring the market stalls. From March to April, Wuyuan, known as China’s most beautiful countryside, in Jiangxi Province, is also blanketed in golden hues.

The peony, known as the king of flowers and a symbol of prosperity, captivates with its gorgeous blooms. From April to May, visit Luoyang’s Sui-Tang Dynasty Relics Park or Heze’s Caozhou Peony Garden to witness the splendor of this floral monarch.

In China, from mid- to late March, the Pingba Cherry Blossom Garden in Guizhou attracts large crowds as it enters peak bloom season. If you visit Qingdao from April to mid-May, head to Zhongshan Park to see the uniquely beautiful Qingdao cherry blossoms. In addition to cherry blossoms, the park also features many tulips. Tulip season runs from April to May, and the park is home to about 1.7 million varieties of plants, offering visitors a rich visual feast. During the same period, the cherry blossoms and magnolia in Jinan’s Baihua Park are also in full bloom.

Keukenhof: Europe’s Backyard Tulip Garden

Keukenhof Tulip Garden in Amsterdam, Netherlands, is the world’s largest tulip garden, open for only two months each year. In addition to tulips, the park also cultivates many other bulb flowers, creating a dazzling array of colorful blooms that are a feast for the eyes.
