92% discount on high-speed rail off-peak rides; save NT$135 on Taipei–Kaohsiung trips

Taiwan High Speed Rail’s 92% discount on designated off-peak trains launches on the 13th. The railway operator stated that off-peak services are available from Monday to Thursday, with one-third of daily trains eligible. Taking the high-demand Taipei–Zuoying standard-class reserved seat as an example, the original fare is NT$1,630, which drops to NT$1,495 with the 92% discount — saving NT$135 for a one-way trip and NT$270 round-trip. However, the off-peak discount cannot be combined with the 97% discount for non-reserved seats.

THSR noted that designated off-peak trains operate from 9:00 AM to 11:36 AM and after 8:00 PM from Monday to Thursday, departing from either Taipei or Zuoying. Passengers must purchase full-price standard-class reserved seats. Tickets for off-peak services can be purchased up to 28 days in advance, and also on the day of travel if seats are available.

THSR stated that there are 92 southbound and 80 northbound discounted off-peak trains per week, totaling 172 services, accounting for 18% of weekly departures. It is understood that since the pre-sale of off-peak discounts opened on February 14, ticket bookings have been stable, and most recent services still have available seats.
