China Airlines announced on March 19 that starting April 1, it will serve a variety of chef-designed meals in first and business class on routes from Taoyuan to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Hawaii, Frankfurt, and Vienna. These include pan-seared beef tenderloin with truffle sauce and smoked onions, as well as chestnut and foie gras with truffle cappuccino launching in July, Thai coconut chicken soup in October, and chocolate caramel spice with passion fruit cream and matcha almond desserts launching in January of the following year.

Additionally, from March 21 to 31, China Airlines will offer Shiraz Private Reserve and Antique Sparkling NV, both brewed at Australia’s Hunter Valley Earth’s Gravity Estate, in first and business class.

According to Yang Zibao, Deputy General Manager of China Airlines’ Inflight Supply Department, who has extensive knowledge of wine, taste perception changes at high altitudes due to temperature and pressure, making it even more important to select suitable wines.

The two wines selected by China Airlines this time were actuallybrewed by Taiwanese couple Lee Wu-da and Liu Fanghua in Australia. Bartender Liu Fanghua, formerly a flight attendant, developed a strong sensitivity to wineand subsequently became a professional sommelier and winemaker. Thanks to Liu Fanghua’s rich experience and skills, the Shiraz red wine and Antique sparkling wine have delicate layers and are easy to drink, with a slightly acidic taste that can also stimulate passengers’ appetite during flights.

This collaboration between China Airlines and Earth’s Gravity Estate is another example of working with Taiwanese talent, following previous partnerships with Pan Dajun, owner of Napa Valley's Beautiful Hill Winery in California, USA, and Guo Xinyi, owner of Château Haut-Brisson in Bordeaux, France—allowing passengers to enjoy the warm hospitality of Taiwan even at 30,000 feet.
