Walk on the Clouds！ The 100-meter Glass Suspension Bridge in Pingsai Valley, Nantou to Open in May

Nantou County is best known for the “Sky Bridge” on Bagua Mountain, but now the 100-meter-longPingsai Sky Glass Suspension Bridgeis set to reopen this year (2014) in May after undergoing long-term renovations.

The Pingsai area in Xinyi Township boasts dramatic alpine gorge landscapes, where the cliffs between the forested mountains and valleys could easily be called “Taiwan’s Little Taroko.” After hiking along the Pingsai Trail, you’ll come across the “Pingsai Sky Glass Suspension Bridge,” also known as the Fude Suspension Bridge, which spans the 60-meter-deep valley.

The Pingsai Sky Glass Suspension Bridge is the first of its kind in Taiwan, featuring a completely transparent tempered glass walkway. Walking across feels like treading on clouds, but with a deep gorge below and the sight of the Pingsai Stream flowing beneath your feet, it's an adrenaline-pumping experience for visitors. Although the bridge was completed as early as 2013, it has not been open to the public due to incomplete surrounding trails, recreational facilities, and transportation access — despite gaining some fame.

The Xinyi Township Office stated,that the renovation of the glass bridge and improvement of surrounding public facilities are expected to be completed by the end of March. And due to limited space, to prevent environmental damage from large crowds and vehicle flow after opening, an entrance fee will be consideredfor the maintenance of the bridge and recreational environment.
