Chase the Northern Lights — plan for early spring or late autumn

If seeing the beautiful green aurora borealis in Northern Europe was a childhood dream of yours, then be sure to do your homework so you can catch a glimpse of the aurora’s mysterious veil. Not long ago, on the Norwegian tourism websiteVisit Norway, photographers captured many breathtaking images of vibrant green auroras streaking across the sky — making you wish you could be there in person.

According to Visit Norway,the best time to see the ever-changing, stunning auroras is around the spring and autumn equinoxes, when the sky is dark between 6 PM and 1 AM, increasing your chances of an encounter.The ideal locations are the Lofoten Islands in Norway, stretching along the coast up to the North Cape (Nordkapp), and even further north. Auroras are most easily spotted in the warmer, drier regions of Northern Europe. Aurora hunters must also stay out under the night sky all evening, constantly monitoring the heavens, as the lights may appear at any unexpected moment.

Also, to view the aurora, remember to avoid full moon periods or areas with heavy light pollution, and be sure to dress warmly — don’t catch a cold.
