"April Snow" Falls Amid the Urban Jungle — Floss Flowers Bloom on Baishi Lake Suspension Bridge

In the warm spring of April, "April snow" is falling over Baishi Lake in Neihu. On the treetops around the Baishi Lake Suspension Bridge and Tongxin Pond area, dense clusters of floss flowers are blooming vibrantly along both sides of the walking trails, resembling untouched white snow. The Taipei City Bureau of Urban Development also recommends that you take advantage of the weekend and head here to admire the "April snow."

The Taipei City Bureau of Urban Development explained that the petals of floss flowers are long and delicate, resembling the tassels on the garments of ancient ladies, hence the name. When spring arrives, the tree is covered with small white blooms, looking as if piles of glistening snow have accumulated — a truly spectacular sight — which has earned it the beautiful nickname "April snow."

In recent years, Baishi Lake has been a key focus of the Bureau’s agricultural revitalization efforts. To highlight the local significance of the Baishi Lake name, the planting design has been centered around the color "white." Every March, the floss trees planted along the walking trails are the first to burst into full bloom with white flowers. When the petals fall, the ground is covered as if blanketed with a layer of snow. This is then followed by the successive blossoming of "Gunpowder Lilies" and "Taiwan Lilies," making this period the so-called "snow season" of Baishi Lake.

Aside from the floral displays, attractions in the community such as the Baishi Lake Suspension Bridge, nearby Tongxin Pond, Guizhui Pond, Husband and Wife Trees, and the Wish Trail are all worth visiting. The location is easily accessible via MRT or bus. In addition to flower viewing, visitors can also enjoy strawberry picking. Liu Zhaoxian, chairman of the Baishi Lake Community Development Association, said he hopes that through the natural beauty of Baishi Lake, people who have long lived in the urban jungle can come here, stroll around, and fully appreciate the wonderful feeling of immersing themselves in nature.
