Kaohsiung is also getting the world’s second-best ice cream pineapple bun — the Hanshin Dome Store opens in July

Following Taichung and Tainan, the world’s second-best freshly baked ice cream pineapple buns are finally coming to Kaohsiung. The second southern Taiwan store will be located at Hanshin Dome Shopping Mall, with a trial opening scheduled for July 1. Flavors include vanilla, matcha, and a honeydew flavor exclusive to the Kaohsiung store.

The world’s second-best freshly baked ice cream pineapple buns carry on the Japanese flavor tradition. The buns are freshly baked — hot, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside — and then filled with ice cream for a unique hot-and-cold taste sensation. The Taipei Xinyi store offers classic flavors such as vanilla, matcha, and chocolate, but the Hanshin Dome store features vanilla, matcha, and honeydew. From July 6 to July 19, the vanilla flavor will be available for a special price of NT$100 for the first 100 customers each day.

Besides Kaohsiung, there are currently three other outlets for the world’s second-best freshly baked ice cream pineapple buns: Taipei Xinyi Store, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Zhonggang Store, and the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Ximen Store in Tainan, as well as a pop-up mobile bread truck hitting Chiayi Shin Kong Mitsukoshi this summer. The Chiayi Shin Kong Mitsukoshi pop-up store will operate from July 6 to July 31. From July 6 to July 9, the first 30 customers each day who buy the vanilla flavor will get a “buy one, get one free” deal, while customers 31 to 130 can enjoy a special price of NT$100.
