Stay in a water pipe to watch the Erliao sunrise? Tainan’s Zuozhen “Water Pipe Inn” to open this summer

Stay in a water pipe or a hotel? The overseas trend ofwater pipe hotelsis coming to Taiwan. The Tainan City Tourism Bureau has built five camping units renovated from cement pipes at Ganglin Elementary School in Zuozhen District — the closest spot to view the “Erliao Sunrise.” These accommodations are set to open before the 2014 summer vacation. The bureau stated that pricing is still under review and will fall between that of a hotel and half the cost of a regular campsite.

The Tourism Bureau noted thatthe idea of a “water pipe hotel” originates from abroad, transforming the interior space of large round cement pipes into comfortable roomswhere guests can sleep while staying close to nature and being sheltered from wind and rain — offering more comfort than typical camping tents. The Ganglin Elementary School playground is already an established campsite and the closest one to the Erliao Sunrise viewing platform, making it geographically convenient.

The Tourism Bureau stated that the project is currently in its final stages. After safety inspections are completed, it will open before summer vacation and be operated and managed by the Zuozhen Moon World Tourism Service Center. The bureau also reminds visitors that after watching the sunrise, they can explore nearby attractions such as the Xinhua Old Street and the Hutoupi Reservoir Scenic Area.
