The Jadeite Cabbage and Meat-Shaped Stone from the National Palace Museum to Tour Japan — The "Little Jadeite Cabbage" Will Fill in the Spotlight

The "Jadeite Cabbage" and "Meat-Shaped Stone," both part of the "Three Treasures of the National Palace Museum," are set to be exhibited in Japan separately between June and October. As for who will take the place of these two immensely popular national treasures in their vacant display cases, the museum has announced that three other jadeite cabbages from its collection, along with other precious Qing Dynasty artifacts of comparable beauty, will be displayed during that period.

The National Palace Museum received invitations last year (2013) from both the Tokyo National Museum and the Kyushu National Museum to send its wildly popular exhibits, the "Jadeite Cabbage" and the "Meat-Shaped Stone," abroad for the first time. However, the two items will not be exhibited in Japan at the same time — the "Jadeite Cabbage" will be on display from June 17 to July 10 in Tokyo, while the "Meat-Shaped Stone" will be exhibited from September 30 to October 23 in Kyushu.

Many are therefore curious about what treasures the museum will showcase once these two popular items are sent abroad. The museum has stated that when the "Meat-Shaped Stone" is exhibited overseas, three other jadeite cabbages — the "Little Jadeite Cabbage," the "Jadeite Cabbage Flower Vase," and the "Garden Vegetable Jade Brush Pot" — will be displayed, turning the October exhibition room into a vibrant fruit and vegetable garden. Meanwhile, during the "Jadeite Cabbage's" stay in Japan, weekly displays will feature Qing Dynasty pieces such as the "Coral Kuixing Pointing at the List Basin Stand," the "Golden Vase Forever Strong Cup and Jade Candlestick," and the "Western Carved Wooden High-Stemmed Cup Set," offering visitors a rich variety of cultural relics to admire.
