Gold Museum sets record with over 2 million visitors, topping New Taipei City

Adjacent to Jiufen, the Gold Museum is one of the most popular tourist destinations in northern Taiwan for both domestic and international travelers. Last year, it broke the 2 million visitor mark, becoming the most visited museum in New Taipei City in 2013.

The Gold Museum was once Asia's largest gold mining area. Although the mines have nearly been exhausted today, the remaining mining sites, traditional tunnels, water tunnels, Gold Waterfall, and the Japanese-style "Crown Prince’s Residence" have been integrated into Taiwan’s first ecological museum. It showcases the former glory of Jinguashi and is also a popular spot for many Japanese tourists visiting Jiufen.

According to statistics from the New Taipei City Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Gold Museum received 2.02 million visitors in 2013, ranking first in the city and setting an all-time high. Meanwhile, the Yingge Ceramics Museum saw a significant increase in popularity, with visitor numbers rising from 1.06 million in 2012 to 1.23 million, ranking third. The Tamsui Historic Museum came in second place with approximately 1.61 million visitors.
