The Century-old Linfengying Railway Station Gets a Makeover — A 2,000-Ping Green Plaza and Treehouse Continue Its History

Linfengying in Tainan is famous not only for its milk. For railway enthusiasts, the century-old “Linfengying Railway Station” with its Japanese-style charm is even more captivating. On the 8th, the long-neglected plaza in front of the station was given a fresh new look, with over 2,000 ping of green space bringing a renewed vibe to the old station.

Linfengying Station is one of the three remaining Japanese-style old stations in Tainan City. The station is filled with the ambiance of old-time railways, and several red-brick and cement-tile Japanese-style houses stand in front of it. Having stood the test of time, some are even overtaken by old trees—true treehouses. The brick-and-wood architectural complex gives the area a strong Japanese-style feel. In the past, many residents from Liujia and Xiaying areas would take trains from here to work or study elsewhere, making it a place full of memories for the older generations.

Through the joint efforts of the Taiwan Railways Administration and the Tainan City Government,a green plaza of over 2,100 ping was created in front of Linfengying Station, adding greenery to the station, while the Japanese-style buildings resembling “treehouses” were fully preserved.Additionally, car and motorcycle parking spaces were added, improving traffic flow around the station. The long-neglected platform house next to the station is also being considered for renovation into a themed restaurant, aiming to create a “Hometown of Linfengying Fresh Milk” and turn it into an emerging tourist attraction.
