A young owner chases dreams with passion — a coffee shop becomes a dream factory

Because of its location, I’d been keeping an eye on this cafe for quite a while.

Usually, when we’re walking around, we tend to subconsciously notice shops like specialty roaster cafes. If we happen to come across one and have some free time, we’ll pop in for a cup of coffee. Around last year, I noticed a sign at Yuanshan MRT Station that said “specialty coffee.” I had planned to visit but passed by several times without ever seeing the metal shutter open. I also couldn’t find any information about a local specialty roaster cafe near Yuanshan online, so I just left the idea at the back of my mind.

I was almost ready to let it go, figuring we just weren’t meant to meet, until I saw the place being renovated again toward the end of last year. That’s when I finally made up my mind and went for a try not long ago.

The cafe is now called Future Factory. The owner took over the previous shop, did some renovations, and reopened it in its current form. I found the interior quite interesting, so I snapped a few extra photos with my phone to share.




Future Factory officially opened earlier this year. The owner is quite young — before taking over this cafe, he worked as an assistant under Teacher Zhuo, where he built up a solid foundation of coffee knowledge. Now he’s out on his own. The roaster in the shop has also been refurbished and will be used to roast fresh beans for the cafe.


Besides coffee, the cafe also serves light meals and dishes.


I ordered a hand-brewed Blue Lake Mandheling. In terms of flavor, I think the shop aimed for a balanced taste — with a bit of roastiness and also hints of the unique character of Blue Lake Mandheling. The body wasn’t too heavy, and I thought this approach worked really well.
