Tulip seas bloom across Kyushu as over 500,000 tulips flourish

From now until April 20, the “Tulip Festival” is in full swing, painting the prefecture with a vibrant sea of tulips.

Located in Ogata Town, Bungo-Ono City, Oita Prefecture, visitors can not only enjoy the spectacular view of one of Japan’s Top 100 Waterfalls — the Harami Falls, but also explore large tulip fields around the road rest stop sharing the same name. Now in its 22nd edition, the “Tulip Festival” attracts numerous families and tourists every year who come just to stroll through the tulip fields and admire the beautiful colors of the blooming flowers.

Moreover, the “Tulip Festival” isn’t just for viewing — you can take the beauty home with you. For just 100 yen per tulip, you can bring a piece of this splendor back to your own garden. Additionally,the Bungo-Ono City Tourism Associationoffers a “horseback riding experience,” allowing you to enjoy the seemingly endless sea of tulips from a unique perspective atop a noble steed. There’s also a “date-limited helicopter tour” where, flying high above, you’ll get a bird’s-eye view of the land painted in vibrant hues of various tulips and the rushing Harami Falls. Combine this with the remaining cherry blossoms for a tulip adventure, immersing yourself in the vibrant energy of spring’s natural surroundings.
