With the increasing number of tourists visiting Taichung, the city’s Transportation Bureau launched a “Free Bus WiFi Program” this year. The service has already been activated on two new express bus routes — “154 Dajia Express” and “156 Daya Express.” Passengers can simply search for the network “TCBUS” and connect without a password. The plan is to extend free WiFi access to all seven new express bus routes by the end of June.

Taichung’s “new express buses” have been in operation since 2013, primarily to serve residents living in suburban areas and make commuting to the city center more convenient. With fewer stops and benefits such as free rides for up to eight kilometers when using an IC card, the service has been well-received since its launch. In addition, Taichung’s suburbs are home to popular tourist spots such as Dongshi Forest and Xinshe, and visitors who prefer not to bike or drive often rely on buses for transportation. To help prevent tourists from getting bored during their rides, the bureau decided to provide free WiFi on the new express buses.

At the same time, considering that many tourists extend their trips to Nantou and Changhua, the Taichung City Transportation Bureau will integrate information on various public transport options in July, including high-speed rail, Taiwan Railways, intercity buses, and local city buses, to help travelers easily check schedules across different modes of transport.
