Last updated 2026-09-24 — The first impression when stepping into "Yu Sushi Second Store" makes people feel as if they are having sashimi in Japan. The whole store has only a long bar counter, with no Taiwanese - style seating arrangements for four people at all. The way the chef cuts sashimi and prepares ingredients is completely visible to the customers. Boss Chef Abra said, "All the fish here are purchased on the same day, so there's absolutely no problem with freshness."

The first impression when stepping into "Yu Sushi Second Store" makes people feel as if they are having sashimi in Japan.

Since only the fish caught on the same day are bought, both the first and second stores of "Yu Sushi" adopt an à la carte ordering method without a fixed menu. Abra said that because the Keelung Fish Market can only know what fish will be available in the morning and the Yilan Daxi Fishing Port can only know in the evening, they dare not make a fixed menu. This also allows customers to taste various kinds of fish.

Abra started learning to cook in junior high school and officially entered the field of Japanese cuisine in high school. Therefore, picking fish has never been a problem for him. "Actually, the freshest fish is stiff!" He breaks the common misconception about picking fish. A just - dead fish will have the characteristic of rigor mortis. So if you see that the fish meat is straight and hard, you can judge that the freshness of this fish is beyond question.

In addition to the à la carte service, the store also offers set meals at noon, including a comprehensive set meal, chirashi sushi, etc. What's special about the chirashi sushi here is that all the fish meat, including the tamagoyaki, is cut into small cubes and sprinkled on the vinegar - flavored rice, which has a very visual impact. When asked why the chirashi sushi is cut into blocks, Abra said that this is what he learned from his chef when he was making Japanese cuisine in South Africa. This not only makes the appearance different from the ordinary chirashi sushi but also makes it particularly easy to eat. What's more, the chirashi sushi set meal also comes with an additional four pieces of nigiri sushi, miso soup, and an appetizer, which is very filling.

Another comprehensive set meal spreads large pieces of sashimi flat on the vinegar - flavored rice. The vinegar - flavored rice uses the Erlin Yukihikari rice, with each grain distinct and a firm texture. It is mixed with the special vinegar made by the store, and the salty and fragrant taste is just right. However, the sashimi spread on the vinegar - flavored rice will be changed according to the different varieties imported every day, so there will be a small surprise every time you come.
