Firefly Season at Shei-Pa National Park Kicks Off in May – Go Firefly Watching in the Misty Mountains

Firefly-watching events are popping up one after another. In the mountains across Taiwan, the nights of April and May seem to have become the stage for fireflies. Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters has partnered with the Guanwu and Bailan areas to organize two sessionsof the “Date with the National Park – Bailan Tribe ~ Dancing with Fireflies & Exploring Ancient Trails” eco-tourism activity, where participants will explore the Guanwu Snow-Mist Trail, experience Atayal cultural activities in the mountains, and enjoy the spectacular sight of fireflies dancing in the forest.

The Guanwu Recreation Area of Shei-Pa National Park is located at an altitude of about 2,000 meters and boasts magnificent mountain views, beautiful waterfalls, rich flora and fauna, as well as trails perfect for forest bathing. The Bailan Tribe is situated in the Xinan Mountain area of Hsinchu County at an altitude of about 800 to 1,600 meters. It is a traditional Atayal village surrounded by towering mountains and has long been one of the best spots to view sea of clouds. The area also features pristine forests and other abundant natural resources, nurturing a diverse range of animal life.

Starting from May 17, Shei-Pa National Park, in collaboration with the Chinese Green Lifestyle Leisure Development Association, will hold two sessions of firefly-watching activities on May 17–18 and May 24–25. Each session is limited to 20 participants. The itinerary includes visits to the Guanwu Snow-Mist Trail and the Guanwu Salamander Ecology Center to learn about the ecology of the rare salamanders, an in-depth cultural exploration of the Qingquan Tribe, hands-on experiences of Atayal cultural activities in the Bailan Tribe, a visit to the Dayai Tribe’s Stone Ecology Park, and nighttime firefly-watching eco-activities.
