Yuan Chu Dou Fang, which has outlets at National Chengchi University and Taipei’s Breeze Xin Yi, is just two months old. Originally called “Yuan Chu,” meaning “the most original soy milk squeezed from ground soybeans,” the brand was created because many commercial soy milks have artificial or unnatural flavors. The owners wanted to offer customers a more natural and delicious alternative.

“We tried over 80 types of soybeans before choosing this non-GMO variety from Canada. It contains no additives, preservatives, or thickeners,” a staff member explained. Their soy milk has a slightly grainy texture. “We think the lightly filtered version tastes better because most of the nutrients are actually in the residue. Filtering it all out would reduce the nutritional value, so we decided to leave a bit of the residue in.”

Peanut Cheese Toast – NT$50
The shop uses chunky peanut butter, resulting in a flavor that’s not too sweet or salty but full of peanut aroma. Its uniquely sweet-and-salty taste, paired with a double-cheese blend of yellow cheddar and white cheese strings, creates a super stretchy melt-in-your-mouth effect when you bite into it. As for the toast, since cheaper bread is often made with bread flour and tends to turn dry after toasting, the shop opts for pricier bread—making their costs higher than average.

Meat Lover’s Toast – NT$85
This version includes tenderloin, smoked chicken, and sausage—each with a hint of smokiness. The toast itself doesn’t come with any added sauces. The staff mentioned they had considered adding black pepper for extra flavor, but the meat’s natural smokiness is already rich enough, and both the cheese and meats are quite salty, so they ultimately chose to keep it simple and let the natural flavors shine.

Christmas Special – NT$75 (medium size only)
Available only from December 11 to December 25, it comes in two flavors: Strawberry Christmas and Blueberry Christmas. Both use imported French jam to create a gradient effect. This jam is more like a fruit puree, with whole strawberries and blueberries blended into it. Mixed with plain soy milk, it doesn’t taste overly beany—more like a fruit smoothie. It’s thicker than regular soy milk and very filling.

Soy Milk Tea – NT$55 +NT$5 for tapioca pearls
Many places make soy milk by grinding beans, filtering out the residue, and boiling it in a big pot—but that method often results in excessive burnt flavors. The product developers at this shop even flew to Japan to learn how to make soy milk using the “steaming” method. A staff member said, “This approach gives a richer taste and better preserves the aroma of the soybeans. After boiling, we let it mature for 48 hours, then rapidly chill and deliver it to the store.” Even the tapioca pearls are handmade by the shop using a water-boiling method, taking two hours to prepare—the process is quite elaborate.
