"White Trumpets" Bloom Everywhere   TaiTai Maali’s Taiwan Lily Flowers Last Until May

Taitung’s TaiMaali is a popular destination for flower viewing. From April to early May, it is the season for Taiwan lilies to bloom. The lush green mountains are dotted with delicate, drooping white trumpets, a breathtaking sight many visitors look forward to at the end of spring.The Green Mountain Farm in TaiMaali says that although recent rains have caused some flowers to fade, the improving weather means the overall lily blooming period could extend to around mid-May. Farm manager Mr. Tsai advises visitors to call ahead to check on the flower conditions.

Mr. Tsai noted that Taiwan lilies usually bloom around March, but this year’s lower temperatures delayed the bloom until mid-April. However, some visitors received incorrect information and thought the lilies weren’t blooming as well as in previous years. In reality, mid-April is when the flowers are at their peak. He also mentioned that lilies are highly sensitive to rain—heavy rainfall can affect their quality. Although the current bloom isn’t at its densest, there are still many buds and partially opened flowers. As long as there are no more heavy rains, the hoped-for spectacle of abundant, beautiful lilies covering the hills is still likely.

Additionally, Mr. Tsai recommends the farm’s approximately 200 yellow tropical daylilies, which can only be found by inquiring and getting guided access into the mountains. The hydrangeas, which will bloom in mid-May, are also quite enchanting.
