Danish Restaurant NOMA Named World's Best for the 4th Time; Taiwanese Chef André Chiang Also Makes the List

The results of the 2014 World’s 50 Best Restaurants are out！ Located in Copenhagen, Denmark, NOMA has once again claimed the top spot after 2012, beating strong competition. Coming in second is Spain’s EL CELLER DE CAN ROCA, which won last year. Asia also secured 7 spots on the list, including one awarded to Taiwanese chef André Chiang’s restaurant in Singapore, which ranked 37th.

The UK-based Restaurant magazine recently announced the 2014 World’s 50 Best Restaurants, with NOMA, a two-Michelin-starred Danish restaurant, taking the top honor. NOMA has long been a familiar name at the top of these rankings, having held the number one spot for three consecutive years from 2010 to 2012. Last year, it was narrowly beaten by Spain’s El Celler de Can Roca, coming in second. This year, it has made a strong comeback.

NOMA focuses on Nordic ingredients, using seasonal vegetables and wild, uncultivated produce, which are transformed into exquisite dishes by Chef René Redzepi, putting Nordic cuisine in the global spotlight. According to Restaurant magazine, NOMA’s return to the top is due to a year of transformation and refinement—its dishes have become simpler yet remain exceptional, with an even stronger connection to Nordic ingredients and flavors that helped it stand out and reclaim the top spot.

Among the top 50 restaurants, Spain and the United States each had the most entries with 7 restaurants each. Asia had a total of 7 restaurants from 4 countries—Thailand, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Thailand’s NAHM in Bangkok was the highest-ranked Asian restaurant, coming in 13th place.

It’s worth mentioning,that Taiwanese chef André Chiang’s French restaurant Restaurant Andre in Singapore ranked 37th, marking a proud moment for Taiwanese cuisine on the global gastronomic stage..
