Break into a giant’s “fairy-tale castle” – Chiayi’s new free landmark just opened in June

A brand-new landmark has emerged in Chiayi – a massive castle located on Provincial Highway 3 in Zhongpu Township, Chiayi County. With its pure white exterior and orange-red tower tops, its whimsical design makes it look as if you’ve stepped into the giant’s castle from *Jack and the Beanstalk*. The eye-catching architectural style has all passersby stopping to take a peek inside.

This isn’t a newly built amusement park, but rather the Zhongpu Visitor Center in Chiayi. With an investment of NT$40 million, construction began in August last year and it officially opened to the public in June. The Zhongpu Visitor Center is conveniently situated at the northern entrance of the Siraya National Scenic Area. As Taiwan’s 13th national scenic area, the completion of the castle adds yet another attraction for visitors exploring the region.

This mountain fairy-tale castle fulfills the dreams of many boys and girls. Not only is the exterior of the castle specially designed, but the cartoon insects on the walls and the whimsical cat-shaped tree toppers add charming details throughout the entire park. The courtyard features a mini train, installation art of the Siraya mascots Sayun and Dakalang, and cute Formosan black bears painted on the outdoor walls. The castle lobby serves as an information desk and visitor rest area, while the interior offers plenty of play spaces for children. Visitors to Siraya shouldn’t miss this new spot for a memorable photo op.
