Find a touch of Japanese Zen tranquility amidst the greenery at Taichung’s "Private Raindrops" Forest Manor

Finding a homestay where you don’t need to rush, but can quietly enjoy mountain life, seems to have become the modern leisure philosophy. Located in Guguan, Taichung, "Private Raindrops" is a restaurant-homestay nestled in the forest, offering different moods from morning to night, especially poetic when surrounded by clouds and mist.

"Private Raindrops" is situated at an altitude of 700 meters in the Songhe Tribe, about a 10-minute drive from Guguan Hot Springs. It was once selected as one of Taiwan’s Top 10 Homestays in 2013. Though the owners, a couple surnamed Jiang, call it a yard in the forest, the over 6,000-ping property goes far beyond the meaning of a simple "yard"—it’s more fittingly described as a manor-level estate.

"Private Raindrops" has 10 independent wooden green buildings in Japanese style, including double rooms, quadruple rooms, and family rooms. Each unit has a slightly different layout but comes with its own small terrace and garden, offering around 30 to 60 ping of private space to use freely. Regular prices range from NT$3,980 to NT$7,380, and include afternoon tea and breakfast the next day.

Ms. Chen from Private Raindrops said that the bread and cakes are all handmade, and there are also wild vegetables grown on their own land. Guests can enjoy a healthy breakfast and afternoon tea made with local ingredients.

A mountain retreat at Private Raindrops won’t be boring. During the day, you can wander through the Songhe Tribe in the back mountains and breathe in the fresh mountain air. When you’re tired from exploring, enjoy an afternoon tea in the late afternoon. At night, you can stargaze, soak in an herbal bath, and chat with family and friends in the glasshouse lounge, feeling the natural atmosphere accompanied by cicadas and birdsong, recharging your body and mind with renewed energy. It’s recommended to avoid visiting on holidays to better enjoy an undisturbed space.
