Yakushima Monster Village Holds Its First “Fear Challenge” – Sign a Waiver Before You Dare

Is it really true that monsters appear in Yakushima Monster Village at night, despite its lively and cheerful daytime atmosphere? Starting from the 10th, Yakushima Monster Village is hosting its first-ever “Monster Village Fear Challenge,” inviting visitors to team up and break through traditional taboos, pushing the limits of their senses and courage. Along with the thrills, participants can also enjoy the beautiful sight of fireflies dancing deep in the forest at night.

Are there really mysterious will-o’-the-wisps deep in the enigmatic forest? As night falls and large red lanterns are lit, guides will gather all challengers at an altar set up on the Wubin Stage in the village. But before entering the forest, all participants must first sign a “waiver.” Then, led by the guides, they will venture into the deep woods with oil lamps and maps to uncover the truth.

Participants will traverse the “Wooden Horse Ancient Forest Trail,” following the map to first find a protective amulet for safety along the way. The final task is to locate the legendary will-o’-the-wisp. Those who complete the mission will receive a limited-edition good-luck charm.

Yakushima Ming Shan Forest Lodge announced that the “Fear Challenge” will be held from May 10 to 18, but is only open to hotel guests, and requires team registration, with a maximum of five people per group and a maximum of ten groups per day. Additionally, until the 20th, a firefly-watching event is also being held for guests at the Niaoju Square, with each session lasting about 30 minutes.
