Stroll the Taipingshan Trail in late autumn and visit the largest pure beech forest in Taiwan
Last updated 2026-09-23 — Located in the Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area, the "Taiwan Beech Trail" is nearly 4 kilometers long. The first section is built on the old timber transport track. It is gentle and easy to walk. However, the last 1 kilometer was rerouted due to a collapse many years ago and has a lot of undulations. The return trip is a bit strenuous. Lai Boshu, who has been a mountain ranger in Taiping Mountain for more than 10 years, said that Taiping Mountain has the largest pure beech forest in Taiwan. However, the vast beech forest is at the end of the trail. If you want to appreciate it, you have to persist until the end.
一趟历经3、4小时路程的“台湾山毛榉步道”，半天内从晴天、起雾到飘着毛毛细雨的天气变化，虽然阳光照耀下、黄得发亮的山毛榉树叶，带来秋意之美，但浓雾之下的山毛榉枝干，却比树叶来得有“戏”、更让人着迷。

位在太平山国家森林游乐区内，全长近4公里的“台湾山毛榉步道”，前段是循昔日运材轨道而建，平缓好走，但最后1公里因多年前的崩塌，改道后起伏大，回程走来有些费力。当太平山当巡山员超过10年的赖伯书说，太平山有全台面积最大的山毛榉纯林，不过成片的山毛榉林已是步道的最尾端，想欣赏它就得坚持到最后。
