The popular owl flight shows and penguin parades are a hit with children. Climb up to overlook [?lan?], the serene mountain range, and the majestic primeval forests. A high vantage point allows us to soothe our inner souls.

Japan’s only unique desert terrain, the Tottori Sand Dunes, stretches 16 kilometers east to west and 2 kilometers north to south, with elevation differences of up to 92 meters. It’s a masterpiece of nature shaped over tens of thousands of years. Sea winds carve beautiful ripples across the vast dunes; after heavy rain, when the gradually drying sand cascades down the slopes, it forms yellow sand waterfalls like curtains. These uniquely desert phenomena, known as “wind patterns” and “sand curtains,” serve as excellent living textbooks for geology and geography.

Encircling the Fifth National Treasure Castle—Matsue Castle—is the 3.7-kilometer-long Horikawa River. You can take a sightseeing boat to explore the original appearance of the old castle town. Along the way, you’ll pass under 16 bridges. Occasionally, when the bridge planks are too low, the awning on the boat must be lowered, and visitors have to duck to pass under these low bridges. With the sound of rippling water, you’ll enjoy views of Matsue Castle, the keep, and other scenic spots. The surrounding scenery is richly varied and full of charm, offering visitors a precious travel experience.
