Mandarin Oriental Taipei Officially Opens; First Guest Is Brigitte Lin

After eight years of construction, Mandarin Oriental Taipei, poised to be the most luxurious hotel in Taiwan, officially opened today (May 18). The opening ceremony attracted political and business elites from various sectors, as well as Vice Premier of the Executive Yuan Mao Chi-kuo and Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-pin. Long-absent movie star Brigitte Lin was also invited to serve as the honored guest for the ribbon-cutting, becoming an unexpected highlight of the day.

In her speech, Brigitte Lin mentioned that she had many special memories of the area during her student days. Now, after so many years, she also feels the grandeur and magnificence of the French-inspired style at Mandarin Oriental Taipei. Based on her early check-in experience prior to the opening, Brigitte Lin felt that the hotel’s rooms blend 1920s style with modern elements, complemented by elegant decorations such as calligraphy and paintings, as well as thoughtful design touches, making guests feel the warmth of the rooms.

Executive Yuan Vice Premier Mao Chi-kuo stated that in the past, the Chung Tai Hotel built by Lin Chang-ji created a high-quality tourism accommodation environment and employment opportunities for Taiwan at the time; fifty years later, Lin’s eldest grandson, Lin Ming-chun, has inherited his grandfather’s mission by building the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, once again creating over 1,000 job opportunities for Taiwan. The fact that the cost of constructing each room exceeds NT$6 million alone reflects the high standards Mandarin Oriental Taipei maintains for quality.

Located on Dunhua North Road in Taipei, Mandarin Oriental Taipei has a total of 303 rooms, with standard room sizes starting from 17 pyeong (approximately 56 square meters). Among them, the 114 pyeong (approximately 376 square meters) Presidential Suite has become the largest guest room among all tourist hotels in Taiwan.

The hotel has three restaurants with different styles, one of which is the Italian restaurant Bencotto, which features a spacious open kitchen allowing diners to watch chefs at work while they eat.

Following its official opening, Mandarin Oriental Taipei has become the highest-priced hotel in all of Taipei, thanks to its brand strength and prime location.
