Breathtaking Post-Rain Sight: A Stunning "Double Rainbow" Spanning Mountains and Sea

A stunning "double rainbow" appeared in Taipei today (19th)! In the afternoon, rain began to fall across various parts of Taipei, and at exactly 5 p.m., netizen “Daily Throw” captured an astonishing double rainbow from Wanli using their mobile phone. The rainbow stretched magnificently from Wanli Beach to Jijin Highway, presenting a flawless and breathtaking view that left everyone in awe.

The double rainbow spanned glowing clouds and blue skies, descending directly from the mountains into the sea. This two-arched rainbow phenomenon is officially called a "rainbow and secondary rainbow" or "neon." The neon and primary rainbow each create unique visual effects: the "primary rainbow" (虹) forms when sunlight enters the top of water droplets, refracts twice and reflects once before exiting, scattering into the seven colors of the spectrum. The "secondary rainbow" (霓), which appears outside the primary one, forms through a similar process but is dimmer. The difference lies in the path of light — the "secondary rainbow" is formed when sunlight enters the bottom of the water droplets, refracting twice and reflecting twice before exiting, producing colors that spread in the reverse order to those of the primary rainbow, with red on the inside and violet on the outside.

Netizen “Daily Throw” mentioned that around 1 p.m. today, the rainfall was heaviest, then gradually subsided. In the Wanli area, it’s common to see beautiful rainbows when the sun comes out after the rain, but seeing a "neon" is quite rare. This neon, captured on a mobile phone, shows Wanli Beach on the left and Jijin Highway on the right, embracing a view of mountains and sea that is simply moving in its beauty.
