Cloud Gate’s Hidden Hipster Brunch Spot: Small Iron Skillet Scrambled Eggs & Avocado Panini

Lately, I’ve been focusing more on exploring Chiayi and Douliu, especially Douliu, which is very close to the National Freeway 3 interchange. Its strategic value is quite high — when you’re tired from driving, you can just get off the freeway, grab a coffee, and take a break. But coffee alone isn’t enough to fill you up, so I started looking for some decent places to eat.

Today’s spot, Enchanted Café, is apparently a hugely popular brunch place in Douliu. The highlight for me was its evening signboard lighting — most people probably visit during the day, so it’s rare to see it lit up. I think it looks quite enchanting at night, offering a completely different vibe from the daytime shots. It’s also worth mentioning that despite being tucked away in an alley, Enchanted Café didn’t go for one of those blindingly bright, oversized, ugly signs that hurt pedestrians’ eyes.

The first time I came here, Sandra even asked me, “Are you sure there’s a café in there?!” Not only is there one, but it’s actually a pretty great one. Their sign is so small, and you can barely see it from the street — unlike those ugly signs you often see around Taiwan. It’s simple, elegant, and has real style. You’d walk right past the alley entrance without even noticing it. Super low-key.

The feeling when you step inside matches the exterior, though there aren’t many seats inside.

The scrambled eggs have a refreshing flavor, and both the dishware and plating are absolutely delightful.

The salad and yogurt are as beautiful as they are tasty, so they get their own photos.

The bread tastes noticeably better than most you’d find elsewhere. After asking the owner, I learned it comes from Please Slow Down Bakery Studio. Unfortunately, they don’t have a physical storefront — you can only get it by reservation or at local markets.

The French toast is also excellent — sweet but not cloying, with a texture that’s slightly like pudding. And once again, the dishware is gorgeous and a pleasure to look at.

The panini has a crispy yet not dry exterior, paired with a seasonal avocado filling that makes for a truly enjoyable flavor.

The Americano’s flavor isn’t really my style — a bit flat and dull. In comparison, the Earl Grey tea is much more likable.

I love Enchanted Café’s ambiance, choice of dishware, food flavors, and plating. Who knew vegetarian brunch could be so varied? Truly impressive. Since I started exploring Douliu, I haven’t hit a single bad spot. Am I just really lucky, or are the cafés here just that good?!
