Taking the MRT still feels scary – Taxi usage in Greater Taipei rises 10%

After the random attack incident at Jiangzicui MRT Station on May 21, many people have become fearful of taking the MRT, worried that copycat incidents might affect future safety.

According to taxi operators, after the incident, both phone bookings and street hails saw an increase this morning (May 22) in Taipei City and New Taipei City, with an estimated rise of about 10%.

Ms. Lai, whose company is near MRT Taipei City Hall Station, said that she usually prefers taking the MRT to work, but with the recent unstable weather and the Jiangzicui incident, she is now more likely to consider taking a taxi.
