From day to night, Marina Bay in Singapore is the most beautiful and magical bay in the world. Being able to run around this entire loop on foot is the most special experience of any trip—simple yet profound. Along the way, there’s bright sunshine, a gentle sea breeze, and the bold cityscape of dream-chasers. I felt the grand ambition and spirit of a nation, and this was also the most fulfilling journey I had in Singapore.

I was really happy to go for a run early in the morning. I’ve always wanted to run the entire Marina Bay loop. These past few days, I’ve been darting from Marina Bay Sands to Gardens by the Bay to the Merlion, and I’ve thought about doing the full loop in one go more times than I can count. Finally, I set out. The sky was especially blue that morning. Lately, the weather has been great in the morning but turns cloudy in the afternoon, so if you’re visiting Singapore in January and want to catch the blue skies, it’s best to plan your activities early!

My plan was to take a bus to Marina Bay Sands, then run to the Marina Bay Sands Mall and take the MRT back to my hotel. While I was getting annoyed at how slow the bus was, I didn’t expect today’s bus—Route 133—to be a double-decker. That was pretty exciting, though honestly, it just meant a slightly higher vantage point, nothing too special.

When I arrived at Marina Bay Sands, I wandered over to Gardens by the Bay next door and did a small loop around there. The reason I wanted to run here was because when I visited the day before, I noticed a lot of foreigners running here. I figured this route must have some special charm, and I definitely wanted to join them.

This route is truly beautiful. Doing what you want to do and running the path you want to take is really joyful. It reminded me of the movie “Eat Pray Love.” I started right in front of the surfboard at Marina Bay Sands.

Running along the lake at Gardens by the Bay felt very relaxing. I ran toward the Supertree Grove, those giant trees with steel vines—it’s the most peculiar yet vibrant garden in the world.

As I kept running, I found a children’s section, but it was actually a water play area, which was quite well designed.

Unexpectedly, the garden exhibition area created an open, urban-edge feel with its architectural spaces, and I watched the Ferris wheel slowly turning nearby.

Then I stepped onto this wire-mesh bridge. The view from the bridge was amazing—you could see a full 360-degree panorama of Marina Bay. Don’t forget to take lots of photos while you’re on the bridge.
