Hidden in the southeastern corner of Taiwan, “Xuhai Grassland” is quiet and soft.

Xuhai, covered with grassland wetlands and tucked away in the southeastern cape of Taiwan, is a must-visit spot for cyclists doing an island loop, and Pandora is the restaurant where riders stop to eat.

Four years ago during the Lunar New Year holiday, braving the cold and riding through wind and rain, I arrived in Xuhai. It was the quietest and most otherworldly stretch of my island loop journey—no bustling traffic, no noisy crowds, as if I had stepped into a film set.

Xuhai, nestled within gentle slopes of emerald-green grassland, offers not only serene tranquility but also a chance to witness the magical power bestowed by nature.

When you come to Xuhai, remember to soak in the hot springs, lie on the grassland and gaze at the starry sky all night, and be sure to wake up early the next morning to wait for dawn on the beach.

If you're cycling around the island and heading down from the eastern side, consider spending a night in Xuhai—use it as a restful midway point to slowly bid farewell to the slow life and purity of the eastern part, and prepare for the vibrant rhythm of the western side.
