Dine at night markets, draw lucky gift bags, and get shopping vouchers if your name has “food-related meanings”

Night markets can be considered an important part of Taiwan’s grassroots culture and are great places for many to enjoy delicious food. The “2014 Taipei Night Market Food Festival” promotional event, organized by the Taipei City Market Administration, was held on June 13 at Guangzhou Street Night Market and on June 14 at Shuangcheng Street Night Market. In addition to offering lucky gift bags and challenge stamp activities, participants whose names sound like food ingredients could also receive shopping discount vouchers.

According to the organizers, participants who joined the food exploration activity on the day of the event could receive exquisite lucky gift bags, and those who took part in any challenge stamp activity could also get a NT$50 discount voucher. On June 14, at the Shuangcheng Street Night Market event, an additional 150 lucky gift bags would be given out to enhance the fun.

The organizers also pointed out that to add more fun, the event collected names of people containing “food ingredients” and gave out NT$50 night market discount vouchers. So far, names such as Xiang Yumin (corn), Wu Yurou (mullet), Xiang Yuhong (aromatic carp), Cai Yanyu (vegetarian jelly), and Cai Xinju (choy sum) have been selected from Liaoning Street Night Market and Nangang Airport Night Market. More participants are welcome. The 2014 Taipei Night Market Food Festival also featured a draw with extra prizes for those who collected four night market mission cards.
