A massive public bamboo art installation, "The Bamboo Weaving House by the Azure Lake," intertwines 4,000 bamboo poles into a castle of the soul in Neihu

Nestled by mountains and water, and together with Da Hu Park known as the “Neihu Twin Jewels,” Bi Hu Park now features a large-scale bamboo-woven public art piece —“The Bamboo Weaving House by the Azure Lake”,created for the first time through a collaboration between internationally renowned landscape artist Wang Wen-chih and local community residents. Crafted from 4,000 bamboo poles and taking one and a half months to complete, it will be on display from the 21st through the end of the year.

Wang Wen-chih, who grew up surrounded by bamboo forests in Meishan, Chiayi, and has a deep passion for bamboo weaving art, said that the concept of this creation takes the form of a castle, aiming to build a dream castle in everyone’s heart. The outer corridors of the weaving house symbolize the process of spiritual purification. Through the winding pathways, visitors can cleanse the dust from their souls before entering the most unique center of the weaving house — the “Meditation Platform.”

Inside the “Meditation Platform,” visitors can take off their shoes and feel the reflection of sunlight on the square copper plate placed at the center of the platform. As time passes, it refracts various different moods. From within, they can also admire the intricately interwoven patterns of the weaving house from different perspectives, while looking out through the lattice-like structure to enjoy the breathtaking surrounding lake and mountain scenery.

▲ %In the image above%, visitors can sit barefoot on the floor, enjoying the gentle breeze drifting through the gaps in the bamboo weaving, and immerse themselves in the tranquil space surrounded by nature. The international landscape artist Wang Wen-chih (below) specially designed colorful LED lighting to give “The Bamboo Weaving House by the Azure Lake” a variety of moods.

Andthe weaving house takes on yet another different charm at night. Wang Wen-chih specially designed colorful LED lights for decoration. Viewed from afar, it looks as if starlight is scattered across this bamboo castle. Wang Wen-chih said the weaving house aims to offer a space for performance, meditation, contemplation, art appreciation, and leisurely exploration..

The Neihu Community College, which also participated in the creation, stated that in earlier times, Neihu was once famous for its bamboo-woven products. However, with the rise of technology, bamboo weaving craftsmanship gradually faded from memory. This collaboration with Wang Wen-chih hopes to revive the memories of bamboo weaving art among Neihu residents and combine it with the area’s historical and cultural essence to create a surprisingly moving space for soulful dialogue.

“The Bamboo Weaving House by the Azure Lake” will be on display in Bi Hu Park from 5 PM on the 21st through the end of the year. Each session can accommodate approximately 60 to 70 visitors. Opening hours are from 5 AM to 10 PM from June to October, and from 6 AM to 10 PM from November to the end of December. There will also be artistic performances on the “Meditation Platform” every Saturday.
